Are religious, political or coming-of-age events / ceremonies allowed?

St. Nicholas Abbey is not a religious institution; religious wedding ceremonies or coming of age parties are therefore allowed on the premises. Please visit our Weddings section for more information on planning your wedding at St. Nicholas Abbey.

Are fundraisers for other organisations allowed at St. Nicholas Abbey?

Fundraising events are allowed at St. Nicholas Abbey if the following conditions are met:

  • The event does not conflict with the values of St. Nicholas Abbey and is respectful of its historic significance
  • The event does not conflict with St. Nicholas Abbey’s own fundraising activities
  • The event does not promote services that may conflict with St. Nicholas Abbey's name or trademarks
  • The event does not involve any direct solicitation of funds or the payment of funds in cash or otherwise at the event
  • Products and services are not sold at the event

Determination of whether an event meets these criteria is at the sole discretion of St. Nicholas Abbey.  St. Nicholas Abbey has the right to decline any event based on such determination.  Any non-profit organization must provide proof of their non-profit status to take part in our non-profit fee schedule.

May I bring in my own catering?

Yes, you may arrange your own catering; we have a list of preferred vendors we can recommend.

We have a small catering kitchen that can be used for canapé preparation, however require larger events to set up separate service areas and kitchen facilities. This is a requirement for events held on the croquet lawn.

St. Nicholas Abbey reserves the right of final approval over all vendors.

May I bring my own alcohol?

Yes, you may bring your own alcohol; a corkage fee will be applied, subject to agreement. We have a list of preferred vendors we can recommend for wine and spirits, as well as bar services.

St. Nicholas Abbey Rum is also available for purchase for your event.

St. Nicholas Abbey reserves the right of final approval over all vendors.

Can I hang signs or banners in and around St. Nicholas Abbey?

Products, signs or promotional materials may be displayed with the approval of St. Nicholas Abbey, subject to preservation of the historic structures and copyright infringement.

No signs or banners may be affixed to any buildings or structures on the plantation.

During the holiday season, are there decorations present that may affect my event?

Annually, from mid-November until mid-January, there are Christmas decorations placed throughout St. Nicholas Abbey.  During this time, these decorations may be altered or removed at the discretion of St. Nicholas Abbey.

What are the restrictions on candles and red wine?

Red wine is not permitted in the Great House.

We welcome candlelight, but not in the Great House or the Rum Bond.
